Experience a full French language immersion, just as if you had come across a French seaside village. 

We offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in French food, wine, culture and language.  Join us for a leisurely yet full weekend, kicking off with a French wine-tasting on Friday evening and ending with an outdoor activity like a friendly game of Petanque on Sunday morning.

Organizers of the events are French teacher, Julia Schulz and Innkeeper, Joanne O’Shea. O’Shea and her husband bought Craignair Inn in 2010 and since have expanded its scope to incorporate diverse community groups and efforts. Joanne earned degrees in International Business and French from the University of Colorado and keeps up her language skills at Penobscot Language School in Rockland. Schulz is co-founder and past president of Penobscot School, and has taught French for over 25 years, including immersions in Maine, Montreal and the French Antilles. With her filmmaker husband, Schulz now works on heritage language preservation projects nationally and world-wide through Speakingplace.org

Participants can expect to experience typical French meals, games and activities, to meet and converse with French-speakers, and to wander the seaside with other like-minded participants. Presenters for this spring's Immersion are Kate McAleer and Crystal Robinson.

McAleer is the Founder and CEO of Bixby chocolates, who will make a presentation in French about her sourcing chocolate in Haiti. Bixby & Co. is a family owned and operated chocolate confectionery company located on the working waterfront of Rockland, ME.  Founded by Kate & Donna McAleer a mother-daughter team in late 2011, Bixby & Co. crafts organic and non gmo chocolate confectionery products.  In 2017, Bixby & Co. became the first bean to bar or craft chocolate maker in the State of Maine.

Robinson is finishing up her studies in Agriscaping,  a somewhat new technique in the landscaping field which can encompass adding edibles into a landscape design.  She will also discuss lifestyle/sustainability topics, such as locally sourced plants and native species. She previously taught high school French in the Rockland area, and lived and worked in Geneva, Switzerland for many years.

FULL WEEKEND:  $300 + lodging (10% discount on lodging/book on our site or via phone call). 
MINI-IMMERSION 1:  $180 Full day Saturday:  3 meals, all activities and materials.  8am-9-ish pm
MINI-IMMERSION 2:  $80 Friday wine tasting, dinner and soirée.  Bordeaux theme.
MINI-IMMERSION 3:  $60 Saturday dinner and soirée.   Theme: French Caribbean Islands region
